The rebirth of a fisherman’s home
The edifice in question was originally a dwelling for fishermen, which was small but sufficient to meet their basic daily needs. Subsequently, a room and a bathroom were added to the roof using the same stone material as the ground floor. To enlarge the area on the ground floor, the intermediate walls were replaced with arches, which, in conjunction with the different levels, create a seamless transition between the various uses of the space. The wooden beams that comprise the ceiling were previously used as masts on fishing boats.
We have maintained simplicity throughout the structure by eschewing conventional furnishings and instead employing concrete constructions in lieu of sofas and cupboards. The result of these modifications is a comfortable, luminous, and minimalist summer residence that has breathed new life into the old dwelling.
